This diagram demonstrates what shapes in higher dimensions would look like. keep in mind that this is what us humans believe the shapes would look like because we cant our heads around what a 4 dimensional shape would look like.

We live in a 3D world, where everything is made up of 3 axis of perspective, in higher dimensions more axis are added thus making crazier shapes. 

So in a sense we are the shadows of a 4D world / universe. After all we give off 2D shadows.
